Basic Fabrication Program Components

Once you have passed Level 2: Hands On, you will be considered a Fabricator and have the skills and certifications to independently take on small projects. 

Level 1: Basic Training  

Approximate Duration is 6-9 Months                                                             

Orientation

  • Introduction to the company, its culture, and safety procedures.
  • Overview of the stainless steel fabrication industry.
  • Basic tools and equipment training.
    • Forklift Training
    • Crane Training

Level 1: Classroom Education

  • Will be based on the current education and experience level.

Level 1: Evaluation Milestones

  • Blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Mathematics and measurement for fabricators.
  • Occupational safety and health standards.
  • Hands on basic fabrication tool & machine training and use.
    • Saws
    • Drill presses
    • Plasma cutters
    • Shear
  • Cutting, grinding, and polishing mild and stainless steel.

Level 2: Hands On                                                                    

Approximate Duration 9-12 Months

Level 2 Participants will be operating the CNC press brake, operating various other machines and tools, operating the overhead cranes, and working on small weldments.

Level 2: Classroom Education

  • Introduction to stainless steel properties and grades.
  • Introduction welding techniques in GTAW, GMAW, & GMAW-P.

Level 2: Evaluation Milestones

  • Use of the cranes and rigging techniques.
  • CNC press brake programming and operation.
  • Welding and assembly of mild and stainless steel components.
  • Sub-assembly layout and build process development with competency in square, plumb, and level assemblies.
  • Quality control and inspection techniques.

Advanced Fabrication Program Components

Choosing to continuing on to Level's 3 - 6 will allow the individual to gain advanced level fabrication skills and have the ability to become a Lead Fabricator.

Level 3: Advanced Skills                                                            

Approximate Duration 9-12 Months

Level 3 Fabricators will be building smaller weldments and sub-assemblies with little or no intervention from their mentor.

Level 3: Classroom Education

  • Advanced stainless steel properties and grades.
  • Advanced welding techniques in GTAW, GMAW, & GMAW-P.

Level 3: Evaluation Milestones

  • Competent in specialized welding processes.
  • Competent in advanced finishing techniques.
  • Complete fabrication of complex mild steel sub-assemblies.
  • AWS certifications will be completed.

Level 4: Project Build                                                                

Approximate Duration 9-12 Months

Level 4 Fabricators will work alongside experienced fabricators on full scale projects to gain practical experience.

Level 4: Classroom Education

  • Project management training.

Level 4: Evaluation Milestones

  • Competent in basic pipe welding.
  • Ability to build large assemblies to print detail with confidence.
  • Complete fabrication of complex stainless steel sub-assemblies.
  • Project management and self-supervision skills.

Level 5: Mentorship                                                                  

Approximate Duration 9-12 Months

Level 5 Fabricators will be assigned projects to lead the build from start to finish under the mentor’s supervision with little to no intervention.

Level 5: Classroom Education

  • Leadership training.

Level 5: Evaluation Milestones

  • Fully competent in solo project building.
  • Fully competent in managing the project start to finish.

 

Level 6: Lead Fabricator                        

Full Program Approximate Duration 36-60 Months

Level 6 Fabricators will build projects from start to finish with little or no intervention from their mentor.  They are able take on new program participants and mentor them through the program.
